1. Introduction

Stichting ZERO was founded on the conviction that young people benefit from an environment in which they are seen, supported and challenged to take responsibility for their lives. In a society where more and more young people get stuck in conventional structures, ZERO offers an alternative focused on connection, development and resilience.

The foundation focuses on the general public interest by supporting young people in their personal, social and societal development. By combining sports, connection and guidance, Stichting ZERO contributes to preventing dropout, strengthening self-reliance and increasing social engagement.

2. Mission & Vision

Mission

Stichting ZERO exists to guide young people toward perspective, resilience and responsibility, by setting them in motion physically, mentally and socially.

We believe that lasting social change begins with the next generation. ZERO offers young people a safe, challenging and meaningful environment in which they learn to know themselves, develop their talents and learn to handle responsibility – for themselves, for others and for society.

Vision

Stichting ZERO strives for a society in which young people:

  • •Take ownership of their lives
  • •Feel connected to others and to society
  • •Are approached from a place of potential rather than of problems

We are convinced that this is only possible when sports, care, education, culture and personal development are not offered separately, but are approached in an integrated and relational way.

3. Strategic Objectives

The objectives below are guiding and ambitious and form the framework for the multi-year development of Stichting ZERO. They provide direction for choices, priorities and collaborations, and have been drawn up with an eye to social relevance, organizational capacity and quality of guidance.

Establishing and maintaining a sustainable base in Zwolle where young people can do sports, learn, connect and be supported.

Structurally reaching and supporting young people through sports and development activities that contribute to their personal, social and societal growth.

Strengthening and deepening collaborations with local partners, schools, parents and social organizations.

Guiding young people in their development into role models who actively and positively contribute to their community.

Further developing and broadening activities in the area of personal development, mental health and social skills.

Encouraging the involvement of parents and caregivers as part of a sustainable and supportive development environment for young people.

These objectives are evaluated periodically and adjusted where necessary based on changes in the social context.

4. Core Values

Z – Zorg (Care)

We are actively committed to the physical, mental and social care of young people. Stichting ZERO offers a safe, reliable and respectful environment in which young people can find peace and develop themselves. At ZERO, care is a relational responsibility, not a procedural act.

E – Eenheid (Unity)

Unity forms the foundation of Stichting ZERO. Young people grow stronger when they feel seen, connected and part of a whole. Differences are recognized and welcomed. Together we build trust and a sense of belonging.

R – Relatie (Relationship)

Relationship comes before performance. Lasting growth arises in meaningful relationships between young people, mentors, role models and the community. ZERO deliberately invests in trust, closeness and continuity.

O – Ontwikkeling (Development)

Stichting ZERO encourages integrated development: physical, mental, social and personal. Young people are challenged to discover their talents and to take ownership of their lives step by step.

Deepening values

  • Responsibility: young people learn to take responsibility for their choices and their environment.
  • Vulnerability: vulnerability is seen as a strength and a precondition for growth.
  • Community: ZERO is a community in which people support, hold accountable and strengthen one another.

These values form the framework against which decisions, collaborations and activities are assessed. Together we form an environment in which no one has to stand alone and in which shared growth is central.

5. Policy Objectives

The policy objectives of Stichting ZERO provide direction for the structural efforts of the foundation and form the substantive framework for all activities and collaborations. They describe what Stichting ZERO aims to achieve and serve as a framework for assessing choices, priorities and execution.

Main objective

Strengthening the personal, social and societal resilience of young people.

Sub-objectives

Offering accessible sports and development programs

Creating safe meeting places outside conventional systems

Guiding young people with increased support needs

Connecting young people to role models and social networks

Encouraging progression into education, work or meaningful daytime activities

These objectives form the core of the reason for existence of Stichting ZERO.

6. Target Group

Stichting ZERO focuses primarily on young people and young adults (approximately 10–27 years old) who:

  • •Get stuck in conventional structures
  • •Are searching for identity, direction or perspective
  • •Have talent and potential that is not sufficiently expressed
  • •Are dealing with psychosocial or societal challenges

Selection is not based on a definition of problems, but on developmental potential.

Indirectly, Stichting ZERO also contributes to the parents, schools and communities around these young people.

7. Approach and Activities

Stichting ZERO applies an integrated approach in which the development of young people is central. Activities are not separate components, but part of coherent programs in which sports, guidance and personal development reinforce one another.

7.1 Cross-domain approach

Stichting ZERO works in an integrated way at the intersection of:

Sports and movement

Personal development and identity

Social and societal guidance

Culture and expression

Education and career orientation

These domains are connected in continuous development programs. Activities include, among others, sports training, workshops, mentoring relationships, group meetings and supervised projects.

7.2 Intake, progression and outflow

Young people enter in an accessible way through sports and social activities. Depending on their needs, they can progress to more intensive guidance, development programs or mentoring roles. Outflow takes place toward education, work, volunteering or a more independent position in society.

7.3 Intergenerational transfer as a means

Stichting ZERO focuses primarily on the next generation. Knowledge, experience, networks and resources from earlier generations are deliberately and strategically deployed as a supporting means through mentorship, volunteers and collaborations. This always serves the developmental goals of young people.

8. Positioning: ZERO as an NXT-gen social approach

Stichting ZERO builds on existing social initiatives, but positions itself as a next-generation development model. Where earlier models were often focused on facilities or participation, ZERO emphasizes prevention, ownership and integrated guidance.

ZERO operates in a complementary and collaborative way, not as a replacement, and forms a connecting link between young people, society and existing structures.

9. Organization and Governance

The organizational and governance structure of Stichting ZERO is aimed at diligence, transparency and continuity. A clear separation has been established between governance and execution, so that policy is determined independently and execution can take place professionally and purposefully.

9.1 Board

The board determines policy, oversees execution and safeguards the mission, vision and finances. Board members receive no remuneration for their work. The board meets periodically and makes decisions collegially.

Always with the next generation as our compass.
